Data Analyst

Location: Columbia, SC

Duration: 12 Months

 

Job Summary: Engage with business and IT stakeholders to help derive requirements for Business Intelligence Solutions and to work with the Data Scrum/Agile teams to translate those requirements into accurate technical specifications.  Responsible for performing data analysis in the areas of data management inclusive of relational data modeling, dimensional modeling, data movement and data quality to provide support of execution of SQL queries, stored procedures, functions and other database objects in multiple environments within the Data Team.  Will import, cleanse, transform, validate and perform data mappings with the purpose of identifying data patterns to recommend process improvements to gain data efficiencies.  Ensure that all data integration points are implemented in a manner that efficiently satisfies the business and/or technical requirements.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

 

§  Elicit and document data and business requirements

§  Helps to define Enterprise Information requirements

§  Examines existing business models and flows of data and designs functional specifications for new systems to meet client's needs

§  Collaborates with the Data Architecture Team to provides a view to BI solution elements relating to analytical reporting

§  Identifies data quality issues and supports data governance initiatives by participating in necessary activities including data profiling

§  Participates in technical design sessions, working with technical resources, to provide insight during solution development

§  Utilizes a range of Analysis Techniques to elicit and present requirements towards solutions

§  Reviewing Corporate Information exploitation, the effectiveness of their Informational Systems and gaps between their information requirements and capabilities

§  Works with the Data Teams to ensure that the technical specifications have been successfully delivered and meet the requirements

§  Liaison with internal/external customers in order to analyze business processes, clarify clients requirements and to define the scope of existing software, hardware and network provision

§  Responsible for the design, development and administration of transactional and analytical data constructs/structures

§  Performs other duties as required

 

Education & Experience

 

§  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field and six to eight years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

§  Experience in working in a SCRUM/Agile work environment

§  Experience in working with industry models for either insurance, banking, capital markets, financial regulation or compliance (preferred)

§  Experience in some type of analysis role (preferred)

 

Job Knowledge & Skills

 

§  Ability to design and build data input and data collection screens

§  Ability to understand the reason for each data driven business process and the basic concepts of designing a business report, dashboard, KPI, etc. to meet the business need

§  Experience of knowledge of integration issues and technologies including data profiling and data quality

§  Experience of working with industry models for either insurance, banking, capital markets, financial regulation or compliance.

§  Knowledge and understanding of how Big Data is currently impacting the Insurance sector

§  Ability to work with structured and unstructured data – batch and real time

§  Ability to articulate and present different points-of-views on various technologies and analysis techniques

§  Verbal and written communication including facilitation, presentation, and documentation
